Installation of Granito tiles
Place on a well levelled concrete slab using normal cement adhesive.
bonding (on the floor and the back of the tile) to properly set the tiles.
Thin grout lines (1-2 mm), to be filled with liquid cement based grout.
The grout filler can be pigmented (in the same tone as the tiles if they are unicolour). The subsequent polishing of the floor is recommended to unify and level.
Very dirty floor- Single disc buffing machine and a fibre disc
For cleaning and stripping a very dirty floor before treating, use a heavy and large diameter polisher and hard fibre discs (black or brown) with water and PH neutral soap or mild ecologically sound non-acidic cleaners. We recommend this cleaning to remove construction as well as domestic stains. Buffing machines and fibre discs can be rented, stripping a terrazzo floor does not require the intervention of a specialist company. Rinse thoroughly to remove the sludge generated by abrasion.
Badly levelled tiles – Abrasive polishing
Polishing with abrasives, like with marble, natural stone or terrazzo. This polishing will level the floor eliminating the small differences in height that result from a bad installation. There are various types of abrasives that give a similar result. This process needs to be done by a specialist company.
Floor for normal use: Sealer is necessary
The sealer is a product that penetrates the pores in the surface of the tile. It is applied only once, after laying and once the floor is clean and dry. The sealer limits the penetration of water and grease, limiting stains.
Apply with a brush or a wool roller, very thinly, as the tile will saturate quickly.
Excess of sealer: eliminate/wipe with a cloth. An abundance of sealer will remain on the surface and as it dries it will create shiny residue that can be eliminated with a buffing machine.
Heavy traffic areas: Crystallise and harden Granito floors
Crystallisation is a mechanical/chemical process that incorporates fluorosilicates (of sodium or magnesium) in the crystals of a “limestone” floor. Marbles, travertine, sedimentary rock or Terrazzo can all be crystallised after the initial polishing, or just to restore and regain the original look.
Crystallisation hardens and waterproofs. A single disc machine, stainless steel wool or bronze wool disc, fluorosilicate based products and the expertise of specialised companies for the treatment of marble floor are needed to achieve this finish.
Crystalliser for domestic use
For domestic use, Mosaic proposes a crystalliser easier to use and non-toxic (without Fluosilicates). This product is best used with a single disc buffing machine and a fibre disc. Consult our customer service for more details.
Cleaning and daily maintenance
Mop with water and PH neutral soap. Natural PH neutral soap cleans, disinfects and nourishes the Granito while protecting it. Do not use harsh cleaners or acidic or alkaline products that attack "limestone" floors. Adding - from time to time – colourless wax to the cleaning water enhances colours, creates a patina and protects the floor.
